How does a magnetic kill switch work?
You can see two overlapping metal contacts (reeds) inside the glass housing. When the switch is in the “on” position, the contacts spring together and make contact; when the magnet switch is in the “off” position, the contacts spring apart and interrupt the circuit.
Can your car still get stolen with a kill switch?
Yes, a kill switch will prevent your car from being stolen by all but the most motivated thieves (a truly motivated thief could load your car onto a flatbed truck, so the only way to prevent that is to protect it 24/7).
Can a dealership put a kill switch on your car?
Consent Requirement: The vehicle owner must be informed of and consent to the lender or third party installing a kill switch. Emergency Override: Any remotely activated disabling device must include an emergency override feature.
Why use a magnetic switch?
A magnetic switch does not require much energy to operate. Instead, it uses a magnetic field to activate the switch, consuming very low amounts of power. This feature is particularly useful in battery-powered devices and other applications where energy conservation is a concern.
