How Air Velocity Measurement Sensors Work
Duct air velocity sensors, typically using a Thermal anemometer principle, work by heating a sensor element and measuring the cooling effect of the airflow. The airflow over the heated element removes heat, and the amount of power needed to maintain a constant temperature offset is directly proportional to the air velocity. A second temperature sensor compensates for variations in the ambient air temperature, providing an accurate and stable measurement of air speed.
Air velocity pressure sensors work by measuring the dynamic pressure generated by moving air, other sensors measure the pressure difference between two ports, or a pressure difference caused by a constriction, and use that data to calculate air velocity.
